Italian urologist Dr. Maria Cerruto discovered that high heels can have a positive impact on a woman's sex life.
"I love high-heeled shoes and wanted to find something positive about them," says Dr. Cerruto from the University of Verona. "In the end, I achieved my goal."
Heels influence and train the pelvic muscles, reducing the need to train them separately. It's also plausible that wearing high heels in everyday life may make additional pelvic floor exercises unnecessary, helping keep a woman’s vagina firm and elastic naturally.
The study involved 66 women under the age of 50. Dr. Cerruto found that women who held their feet at a 15-degree angle to the ground — equivalent to about a 5 cm heel — showed up to 15 percent less electrical activity in their feet. This suggests that the muscles are more relaxed when wearing higher heels, which enhances their strength and ability to contract. Dr. Cerruto added that women often struggle to find the right exercises for the pelvic area, and wearing high heels might just be the solution.
"Like many women, I enjoy wearing high heels, and although they’re sometimes uncomfortable, I continue to wear them to appear slimmer and taller. It's also nice to know that high heels may offer potential health benefits."
